Acute muscle-protein synthesis differences are smaller than marketing suggests

The 2026 systematic review and Bayesian meta-analysis included 12 studies comparing plant- and animal-based proteins in healthy adults [8]. Point estimates slightly favored animal proteins overall, but the pooled difference was small and imprecise. In adults ages 18–54, responses were broadly similar; adults 65–85 showed a modest animal-protein advantage. The body continues to digest and use amino acids above a single-meal muscle-protein-synthesis plateau. People with known kidney disease should not inherit reassurance from healthy-adult trials. Their protein targets can be different and belong in disease-specific nutrition care.

Product-quality boundary

The powder itself is a separate evidence question

FDA does not approve dietary supplements for safety and effectiveness before they are marketed [6].
