Melatonin
Best understood as a clock signal
Melatonin can advance biological and sleep timing in delayed-sleep-phase studies and has a clear role in jet-lag research [1-3]. That is different from saying it is a strong generic sedative. A 2026 review of systematic reviews emphasizes how much melatonin outcomes vary by population, indication, formulation, and endpoint [2].
This page therefore does not give a fixed 30–60 minute onset or universal low-dose protocol. Timing relative to the circadian target can matter more than a simple bedtime rule.
